There are several ways to set up your ’Motif Studio,’
from a basic, realtime relationship where Motif sounds or beats
are simply recorded and overdubbed onto individual tracks on the
AW16G, to a fully synchronised, interactive marriage where you can
maintain separate ‘MIDI sequence’ and ‘audio’
tracks until your final mixdown.
Along the way you can also do things like use the sliders on the
AW16G to control Parts in a Motif sequence, or even record sophisticated
AW16G control changes into Motif’s sequencer for fully automated
playback.
The following tutorials are designed as a complete mini course
of lessons, with each ‘Scenario’ covering one or two
topics in an easily digestible fashion. By the end, you should be
familiar with all the basic set up procedures and ways in which
you can record into the AW16G incorporating or using Motif. If you’re
really slow the whole thing shouldn’t take more than an hour.
The following is a list of Setup Scenarios. Feel free to just access
the particular one you want if you don't want to, or aleady have
"taken the course."
Scenario A: Instant recording from Motif
Performance to AW16G.
The basic setup to get your Motif sounds
and songs into the AW16G.
Scenario B: Recording a Motif Performance
to AW16G on separate tracks.
The next step in recording your Motif
Performances.
Scenario C: Synchronization between the
MOTIF and AW16G using MIDI Clock.
The Advanced Motif Studio starts here.
Scenario D: Using the AW16G's sliders
as a Remote Controller for Motif Mixes (and recording AW16G track
automation into the MOTIF sequence)
Advanced Mixdown and Automation techniques.
Scenario E: Combining Motif Sequenced
Tracks "live" with AW16G recorded tracks, and burning
the combined session/mix to CD
Maximize your mix for CD.
Scenario F: Connecting the Motif to the
AW16G via the optical digital cable
Clean and clear sound with just one cable.
Here are the in-depth documents for the power hungy
Motif Studio user.

Guide
Ha! The way that best suits your style of music, and your technical
inclination. A fully synchronized set-up will certainly give you
tons more flexibility in terms of re-doing parts, changing sounds
etc., but there is something comforting - not to say swift - about
recording straight to audio and simply using Motif as a realtime
purveyor of extremely cool sounds.
NOTE: Even
the most basic Scenario in this tutorial utilizes the full AW16G
recorder section. If it’s 3AM and you’re desparate to
get something recorded instantly, use the Sound Clip feature. If
you think you might use this a lot, best to alter the maximum length
of Sound Clip from its default of 30 seconds to its fullest length
of 3 minutes. Press [UTILITY] repeatedly until you highlight PREFER,
then adjust SOUND CLIP TIME.
